gotta have friends

My friend Kate came over to visit today, all the way from Muncie, IN.  I love it when my friends visit and wish it happened more frequently, though my family visits a lot so I can’t complain too much.  Kate has been my most frequent, out-of-town friend guest, as she’s probably come and stayed the night at least 3 times in addition to today’s visit.  It was awesome to chat and catch up and hopefully the next time we get together it will be warmer so we can actually do something instead of just go to lunch and sit around talking.  But, again, I’m not complaining… because it was great just to visit.

Living at least two hours from most of my friends has really made me feel isolated down here and does get lonely sometimes.  I have a few friends here but it’s hard to make any real ties to the area because it doesn’t really feel like “home.”  My house does; I love my house.  I love that this is the first place that we “settled down” together and where we started our family.  I love all of the hard work we have put into improving this house and making it a nice place for us right now and us or who-knows-who later on down the road.  I guess it’s just that Champaign still doesn’t really feel like “home” to me.  The town is okay, just not where I want to live forever.  It’s hard to put down roots when you don’t like the soil.

Try as I might it’s not easy to keep solid ties with friends up north.  I hope that when I get back up there someday that they are still there for me, and there are some I know definitely will be.  For now, it gets a little lonely here.

Thanks for visiting Kate!
