finished enough
Today we finished the bookcase in the office and I am very pleased with how it turned out. Noah has a lot of books and I wanted to finally have one, sturdy, place to keep all of them (or, at least most of them). I built a book case that seems to fit the bill. It comes to almost 4′ wide and 7′ tall, and has 7 shelves. We got a ton of books on there today and Noah plans to get into organizing all of them within the next few days.

I added some small accessories for his work space like a nice/masculine pen cup, a metallic, magnetic dry erase board, and new supplies (Post-Its, Sharpie highlighters, pens, and more!). I also gave him a drawer of the file cabinet and organized it with the miscellaneous office supplies, new and old.

We moved in a chair that Noah’s brother gave to us a while back that fits in quite well with the color scheme — it’s a little off but it’s not directly overlapping the curtains so it’s okay. We also picked up a set of lamps the other day and put one of the spares on top of the short file cabinet as a reading light.

Of course, as you can see, the room is still lacking wall art and maybe a few more accessories here and there. We’re still deciding on what we want on the walls but we’re leaning towards some WWII art — not sure what exactly but we think something like that would work to the feel Noah wants in the room. I’m thinking of painting the file cabinet too, or maybe making something to disguise it… not sure yet. Overall we were pleased with how we were able to come to an agreement on the room’s decor and also that we fit in the chair and desk we already had. The curtains we got a super sale on, the sheers we already had and we also already had the paint, leftover from one of the colors in our bedroom. The bookcase was definitely the most expensive and labor intensive part (I sanded and stained each board myself) but totally worth it. I will be excited after we put on the finishing touches but we’re both very happy with how the office has turned out.
